Only needed if you are entering a VIN: the generation cannot be read from it, and each one builds a different code. If you typed a serial off the unit, ignore this. Not sure which screen? Pick the closest by year — nothing is charged either way.

How to Find your Citroën Radio Code

RT6 and SMEG screens carry no serial number you can read off the unit, so nothing has to come out of the dash: the code is built from the car’s VIN.

The VIN is on the plate at the base of the windscreen, on the driver-side door pillar, and on your V5C or registration document. Seventeen characters, never containing I, O or Q.

What the VIN cannot tell us is which screen generation is fitted, and each generation builds a different code from the same VIN — so the form asks which one is in the car.

The code these units want is long: sixteen letters and digits, not the four you may expect. That is normal for RT6 and SMEG.

Worth knowing before you start. On these screens the code is not always what unlocks the car: a unit that was swapped between cars is normally re-paired to the VIN with dealer diagnostics instead. If your screen never asks for a code, nothing here applies — and since no owner has confirmed this rule to us yet, we charge nothing for it either way.
