How to Find your Vauxhall Radio Code

The quick way — the VIN. No tools, nothing to remove: the VIN is on the plate at the base of the windscreen, on the driver-side door pillar, and on your V5C or registration document.

Vauxhall units are Opel units with a different badge, so the same tables answer them. VIN coverage is strongest on cars built roughly 1994–2009; if your VIN is not in it, nothing is charged.

The certain way — the unit serial. Pull the radio out with a pair of release keys and read the label on the casing: GM1500… on a CDR 500, GM0205… on a CDR 2005, 14 characters in total.

  1. Switch the radio on — the display shows CODE (or SAFE on some units).
  2. Preset buttons 1–4 each set one digit: press button 1 until the first digit is right, then buttons 2, 3 and 4. Past 9 it rolls back to 0.
  3. Press and hold button 6 — or the OK / enter knob on later units — until the radio accepts the code.
